With big balloons — like low-density foam's big cells — if one pops, the bag starts compressing over time and gets soft and empty. What's the difference between a regular pocketed coil and a nested pocketed coil? Both have great motion separation for undisturbed sleep, and they contour to your body for personalized support. The main difference is that in a nested pocketed coil, the coils sit closer together. There's about 25% more coils and more support, which gives you a firmer, more supportive feel. They still give you all that great contouring. Our regular pocketed coils have some gaps between them, so they have a softer, more forgiving feel. They're a bit softer, with a bit less support than the nested pocketed coil.
Why 9-Series Nested Coils sleep better
Most hybrids line their coils up in straight rows, leaving gaps between every spring. Obsidian nests its 9-Series coils in a tight honeycomb pattern, so there are no empty spaces under you.

If your mattress can't handle a bowling ball and a full glass of wine at the same time, how's it going to handle your marriage? This is your traditional spring unit. Call it a Bonnell, an LFK, a continuous coil — they're all linked spring units, and they have a lot of motion transfer. Watch when I drop this bowling ball. Boom, there you go. See how it's super bouncy? It's all connected, everything falls over. That's what a traditional coil will do. Our Diamond-made, individually wrapped coils sit inside individual pockets, which provides motion separation so you can sleep undisturbed. Even if your partner's tossing and turning at night, you don't get all the movement you get in a traditional spring unit. I can even push right here by the wine glass and it's not going to fall over, because these coils are individual. You also get personalized contouring. Please tell me you're still not sleeping on this. Terrible edge support. Feels like you're going to roll off the bed. Let's get something better. This has great steel edge support all down the sides. I can feel the extra support right under my legs. I feel supported. I can sleep closer to the edge of the mattress without rolling off. And now to my favorite: foam-encased edge support. These rails — so much support. You can feel the coils inside the rails, so they react to you independently and give you incredible edge support.
